Spring Green Body Scrub

Chickweed is growing in every nook and cranny right now and while we are munching on these tasty little guys why not use em in a scrub. Using Chickweed topically has been known to reduce inflammation. Chickweed (Stellaria Media)- acts as a vulnerary and an emollient, a wonderful herb for wounds, cuts, itching and irritation. For those prone to eczema you might give this herb a try. Combined with Marshmallow root together they work to soothe irritated, itchy, and inflamed skin.
Scrubs are simple to make and are great for the whole body. Most of us might remember to exfoliate our facial skin but our bodies reap just as much benefit! Exfoliation washes away any dead skins cells leaving the skin silky smooth. Regular exfoliation keeps our skin young and fresh by inspiring cellular growth.
On top of the benefits for our skin, body scrubbing regularly keeps our lymphatic system healthy. Scrubbing the body activates the lymph nodes which are placed over the entire body. These guys work to keep our system clear of toxins, waste and any other wanted materials. Always scrub from the outer limbs in towards heart.
Spring Green Body Scrub
½ cup medium to fine grain salt like epsom or dead sea salt
1 tablespoon fresh or dried finely chopped chickweed*
1 tablespoon powdered marshmallow root powder*
4-6 tablespoons of carrier oil like almond, avocado, or fractionated coconut oil
6 drops basil essential oil
8 drops grapefruit essential oil
*optional. Combine the herbs and make a paste with a few tsps of water, let sit for 20 mins or up to overnight in the fridge to ‘activate’ the herbs. If you use this method store scrub in the fridge until ready to use. I like to think that activating releases the medicinal value of the herb but you don’t have to do this by any means. In fact if you make your scrub ahead of time without water it will keep well and you will be infusing the oil with the herbs, extracting the medicinal value as well.
