I often find myself wondering: what if we could see people purely by their energy? Would we understand each other more deeply? Would we be drawn to different things—not by appearance, but by resonance?

In herbalism, we learn to listen—not just to symptoms, but to sensations, intuition, and the subtle language of the body. Recently, while working with Bleeding Heart in a flower essence meditation, I noticed something profound: the places in my body that felt sore or tired were also the places asking for energy, nourishment, and care.

That’s the invitation—not to push harder, but to listen deeper.

Understanding Energy in the Body

Energy isn’t just a concept—it’s a lived experience in the physical and emotional body.

  • Physically, low energy can show up as fatigue, soreness, sluggish digestion, or burnout
  • Emotionally, it can look like overwhelm, anxiety, or feeling disconnected
  • Energetically, it often points to depletion—especially in the adrenal system

What Are the Adrenals?

Your adrenal glands sit on top of your kidneys and play a major role in regulating:

  • Stress response (fight-or-flight)
  • Cortisol levels
  • Energy production
  • Blood sugar balance
  • Hormonal rhythm

When we’re constantly in fight-or-flight mode, the nervous system becomes overloaded. Over time, this can leave us feeling wired, tired, and unable to fully recharge.

The Cycle of Fight-or-Flight

Modern life keeps many of us in a chronic stress loop:

  • Constant stimulation
  • Poor sleep
  • Blood sugar highs and crashes
  • Emotional overwhelm

This taxes the adrenals and drains our natural vitality.

When I feel out of balance, I always start here:

  • What is my body asking for?

  • Eat protein, healthy fats, and mineral-rich foods
  • Avoid sugar spikes and crashes
  • Stay hydrated
  • Prioritize rest and deep sleep
  • Incorporate gentle movement (walking, stretching, yoga) to support circulation and energy flow without overtaxing the body
  • Slow down your nervous system (breathwork, herbs, rituals)

A Simple Adrenal Reset Exercise

When your energy feels scattered, depleted, or overstimulated, this is a beautiful way to come back into balance and signal safety to your nervous system:

Ground + Breathe (5 minutes)

  1. Sit or stand with your feet firmly on the ground
    Feel your body supported. Let your shoulders drop.
  2. Place one hand on your heart, one on your low back (kidney/adrenal area)
    This connects awareness directly to your adrenal space.
  3. Inhale slowly through your nose for 4 counts
    Imagine breath traveling down into your low back.
  4. Exhale gently through your mouth for 6 counts
    Let your body soften with each exhale.
  5. Repeat for 10–15 breaths
  6. Optional addition:
    Silently say to yourself: “I am safe. I can slow down.”

Why this works:
This practice helps shift your body out of fight-or-flight and into a parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) state—giving your adrenals a chance to recover and regulate.

You can return to this anytime during the day—especially when you feel overwhelmed, tired-but-wired, or stretched too thin.

How to Make It:

  4. Hang upside down to dry for 1–2 weeks
