Symplocarpus foetidas
Skunk cabbage is used medicinally for its antispasmodic, diaphoretic, and expectorant actions. It is administered in smaller-than-standard doses. It has been used to help treat asthma, bronchial spasms, chronic rheumatism, and spasmodic cramping, especially when the spasms are due to fear and stress. Its antispasmodic actions may prove helpful in treating epilepsy. Externally, it eases pain, soothes cuts and swollen tissues, and helps to stop bleeding of surface wounds.
