Acorus calamus 

Calamus is an intense, warming, aromatic bitter that stimulates digestion, reduces gas and bloating, and treats gastric reflux. Calamus also has a strong affinity for the throat, trachea, and voice. In many Native American cultures, it is a traditional remedy for singers, particularly when the throat is hoarse or sore from straining and overusing the voice. Calamus also increases concentration and brightness of the mind; it is often included in blends that promote mental clarity, insight, and lucid dreaming. Brooklyn poet Walt Whitman wrote over 30 poems involving this remarkable plant.
