Indian sarsaparilla (Hemidesmus as opposed to Smilax) is used in Ayurvedic medicine as an alterative, demulcent, diaphoretic, diuretic and blood purifier. Is a cooling herb that helps to alleviate painful urination during UTI’s and bladder infections. As a valued blood purifier, it is used in formulas for a number of skin complaints, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, dandruff, and more. Ayurvedic tradition holds that the roots will transport the user through the four gates of dreaming; it is used to deepen sleep, and to help the experienced conscious dreamer achieve lucidity during dreams. Ayurvedic healers also prescribe it to men suffering from low libido and impotence.
